Tony Mandola's Press

Tony and Phyllis Mandola are Houston restaurateurs, not New York drycleaners like sitcom characters George and Louise Jefferson. Even so, every time I ate at Tony Mandola’s, the Mandolas’ deluxe new operation, I kept thinking of the theme song of The Jeffersons and its celebration of “movin’ on up.”
Tony Mandola’s longtime dream came true this summer. After four decades in the restaurant industry, he opened his first freestanding eatery at 1212 Waugh Drive, moving his famed Tony Mandola’s from West Gray to a new chunk of prime real estate. It’s the first time he’s built a restaurant from the ground up, separate from a shopping center and reflecting his own vision.
For the legions of fans who flocked to Tony Mandola’s former River Oaks Shopping Center space for years, then passed the time this spring at the temporary Westheimer locale while this built-from-the-ground-up space was being readied, the wait is finally over.
From Miracle Location to its bricks and mortar outpost, this restaurant is a lifelong dream manifested into reality. Balancing that precarious line of fine and casual dining, new décor is sprinkled with old local touches.
Tony and Phyllis Mandola threw open the doors of their new Tony Mandola’s restaurant, and it has been a love fest ever since.

It is with great pride that I can talk about my friends, Tony and Phyllis Mandola’s journey that has taken them from their “miracle” location to their “dream,” of a stand-alone restaurant of their own. The opening of their “French Quarter-inspired” restaurant on Waugh Drive is a fulfillment of a life-long journey for this family.
After 22 years leasing a space, power couple Tony Mandola and Phyllis Laurenzo are moving their Tony Mandola’s
From the ground up. Thatʼs how Tony Mandola has built his well-earned reputation and ever-popular restaurant brand. After six months in Tony Mandolaʼs Miracle Location and nearly four decades in the food service business, Tony Mandolaʼs – built from the ground up specifically for the Texas-Sicilian kitchen that has made the Mandola family a cornerstone of Houstonʼs restaurant scene – opens today in its permanent home.
In Montrose the hot foodie news of late has been the opening of the new Whole Foods store. But starting today, culinary tongues will be wagging about the new kid on the block: Tony Mandola's.
After a strong six months in River Oaks, on Saturday it will be time to say good-bye to Tony Mandola's Miracle Location.
