Tony Mandola's Press
After a strong six months in River Oaks, on Saturday it will be time to say good-bye to Tony Mandola's Miracle Location.
The new Tony Mandola's — yes, you can also say good-bye to the "Gulf Coast Kitchen" at the end of the name — is finally ready to go, with a soft opening starting on Wednesday.
Just south of Dallas on Waugh Drive (catty-corner from the just-opened Whole Foods Market), the new Tony Mandola's feels significantly larger, with 6,700 square feet of space and seating for 225. A pretty garden area with potential for patio dining faces the street, with plenty of New Orleans features like wrought iron detailing and fleur de lis accents scattered throughout.
The large bar area at the rear, with its own separate small tables and banquette, gives the restaurant more flow then the formerly cramped L-shaped design in the River Oaks Shopping Center space. A private room offers its own patio area and can be split in half.
Mandola says that despite the shorter name, he is keeping his classic menu the same with a few additions. His new larger kitchen includes a coal-fired oven, so there will be jumbo pizzas on the menu. Mandola is also bringing back the oysters on the halfshell that were shelved at the miracle location.
And heading to the dessert menu? New Orleans-style beignets.
